A recent graduate with an eye for concept and design. Samina has studied in UWTSD – Swansea college of Art while working in an independent jeweller, in the city of Swansea. Samina Begum has created a brand ‘NIYYAH’ which umbrellas her interests in visualising human relationships, connections, and tactility. The artist/designer/maker also includes social issues: local or international, that translates into 3D objects, that allow viewers to visualise what is happening around the world without the bias aid of news papers and hard to read articles.
The artists medium of choice is Glass, copper and silver. These materials, although, cold, hard and sharp, have the capability to fit and mould into organic shapes which convey a stunning contrast of soft and hard.  Saminas current work is ‘Connection’ in her work, once might find the absolute need to hold one of the many small objects that have been moulded from her hands. The series contains 9 main pieces which are beautifully hand polished into organic shapes that fit the hand of the maker like a glove.
‘my designs and wearable objects contain a large amount of emotional investment. Without this connection , they would be like any other throw away product. I want my work to make the viewer or holder to explore their emotions and feelings that will bring them back to present time and reflect to what is now.’ – SAMINA BEGUM
